“You know I don’t understand why you wanted to leave New Castle it’s beautiful. I mean you live in a castle with chandeliers everywhere. The walls are pretty much pure gold. You have thousands of butlers that do everything for you. You don’t have to deal with bratty kids in your classes. Why wouldn’t you want to live there?”
“What’s the point of living in a castle if you’re only a prisoner inside of it? I can’t go anywhere. I can’t see anyone. I’m stuck doing the same thing every single day. On top of all that I’m going to be prom queen, valedictorian, and the class clown, all because I’m home schooled.”
“Hey you don’t know I might beat you out for valedictorian and prom queen. I mean I am prettier than you.” Jesse says while playing with his hair.
“Ha-ha… very funny Jesse.”
“Okay, well I’m all packed, left a note for my parents. So, I’m all ready”
“Well then I guess we’ll go.”
Jesse kissed his baby brother good-bye and ran out the door. Jesse and Alice walked for about an hour until it started to get very hot. They stopped at a rest stop for a soda. It was getting to hot for Alice to bear. So she let down her hair and went into the air-conditioned rest stop. It was the first time since she was 7 that she had her hair down in front of Jesse. In the castle they always made her have it in a bun so she would look elegant. Jesse turned around and saw her with her hair down and was automatically amazed. The way her long brown hair blew in the wind made him smiled. He had liked Alice since he was about 5 or 6 but for some reason he never had the courage to tell her that he liked her.
He figured that the beautiful princess Alice would never liked him so he never bothered telling her. So one day when he was about 12 his next-door neighbor Lisa told him that she liked him. He asked her out 1-week later completely hurting Alice. Of course, he never really liked her but he figured why dwell on a girl that would never like him. She had princes’ from different countries crushing on her, given the fact that she had never met them, why wouldn’t she choose them. They were perfect for her in every way.
Alice turned around to see Jesse staring at her.
“So um… I think that we should find a place to stay at because I don’t think we’re going to make it to the Lake by sun down.”
“The Lake? We’re going to the Lake? I thought I got to chose where we go.”
“Yeah, I was thinking since that was my moms favorite place to be and mine you wouldn’t mine going there. Please.”
She pulled out her secret weapon, the puppy dogface. Jesse knew inside of him that this had something to do with her mom, for some reason it always did but he couldn’t bear to hurt her so he said yes. He could see Alice’s face just light up. She even started to do a little happy dance.
“Alice, why are you so determined to meet your mother, if she left you? Most people would be angry and not want to meet her. Plus, you have a father that loves you.”
He didn’t know why he was about to say this; he knew this was a sticky subject for her.
“The only reason my dad loves me so much is because I am the only thing he has left of my mom.”
Alice never understood why he didn’t get it. Even though her mother left her of course she loved her, she was her mother and nothing would ever change that.
“Fine, nothing I say will ever change your mind, so let’s keep walking.”
